Musical Mondays: Meet Vince Huzicka!

Vince Huzicka – Garfield, Grant, Hayes, Horace Mann, Lincoln

Background – I grew up in Boardman, Ohio. I attended The Ohio State University for my undergraduate degree in Instrumental Music Education and I am currently working on my Masters in Music Education at Case Western Reserve University.

First music memory – I remember seeing a violinist playing with an orchestra on TV and thinking “I have to do that someday!”

Hobby – I love playing my viola! I play professionally for various orchestras such as the Lima Symphony, Youngstown Symphony, Warren Philharmonic, Greenville Symphony and I play weddings and other special events with Stellare Strings.

Favorite thing about teaching music – It’s hard to pick just one! It is particularly rewarding for me to watch students grow musically and then apply those skills to make their own musical experiences or further their knowledge on their own. I want my students to have the ability to make any music they want with the skills they learn with me.

What is special about Music in Lakewood? The Lakewood community is the cream of the crop when it comes to supporting their students and supporting the arts. Lakewood City Schools offer a diverse wealth of enriching musical experiences for our students. I still have to pinch myself sometimes when I think about how incredibly fortunate I am to have the honor of teaching music in Lakewood.
