Musical Monday: Carrie Smith of Grant!

Time for another installment of “Musical Mondays”, our occasional series in which we highlight a member of our amazing music and performing arts staff! Today we celebrate Carrie Smith of Grant!!!! Thank you for all you do!

Bio – I was born in Lakewood but grew up in Hinckley, Ohio. I completed a B.A in Music Education from Cleveland State University, vocal Major with a piano Minor.  In 1998, I completed the Master of Arts in Education at Baldwin Wallace College. I began writing music from the age of 12, and spent my teenage years in a rock band with my cousins.

Musical Family – Both parents and 7 out of 8 siblings are musicians.  My grandparents and many cousins are musicians as well.

Hobbies – Early morning workouts, reading, tinkering in the garden, riding my bicycle and motorcycle are my favorite free-time activities.

Favorite thing about teaching music -The most rewarding part of teaching for me is when I see a student discover something new they can do.

What is special about Music in Lakewood? Lakewood has been a staunch supporter of the Performing Arts for many years.  We have so many talented students and dedicated parents and music teachers.  We have a High School where a string player can play both Beethoven and Ozzy Ozbourne!  There are spectacular musicals at the High School yearly.  Our vocal staff are experts at helping our singers achieve their potential and this staff provides a wide variety of vocal ensembles. The instrumental staff are true masters at delivering instruction for beginners as well as advanced players, from grade 5, all the way to High School Symphonic Winds.
