The Lakewood Music Boosters Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement Pledges to support Lakewood Music programs grades K-12
The Lakewood Music Boosters has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Our goal is to raise funds to support our music programs throughout the Lakewood City Schools grades K-12.
This year for Giving Tuesday please consider a monetary donation to Lakewood Music boosters. Last year with your support we were able to donate $300 to each of our seven elementary school teachers, we purchased ukuleles for the 5th grade general music classrooms, we purchased a baritone saxophone for Garfield middle school, sent 18 children to summer music camps and paid for over 30 summer music lessons. Large purchases last year included $7.600 for a music library for the new performing arts wing at the high school as well as $23, 000 for a garment rack to store uniforms for the marching band, performance dresses, and drama club costumes. We still need $10,000 to complete the financing on these purchases. Every dollar counts for helping our students.
Lakewood has a very diverse population of students ranking 53rd of 608 public school districts in Ohio. We have many students who need school owned instruments and supplies to participate in our programs.
Giving Tuesday: What your donation means to the students of Lakewood City Schools:
$5 can buy a reed for a beginner clarinet, Rosin for a starting Violin, Lyre for a marching band student, valve oil for a trumpet, flip folder for marching band
$10 can buy a method music book for a beginning student, Recorder for a 4th grader, Ukulele or guitar strings, folding music stand for instrumental student, Resin remover for a string instrument
$20 can buy mallets for a percussion student, Choir folder, violin strings, practice metronome, violin/viola shoulder rests, Dampit humidifiers for string instruments
$50 can buy ukulele for general music, uniform rental fees for a student, violin bow for beginning student, piece of music for an ensemble

On Saturday Sept. 9th (in case of rain then it will be Sept. 10th) the LHS performing arts teachers are holding Lakewood’s first Tag Day (Performing arts students feet hit the street event). Each group will be assigned a geographic zone of Lakewood households. The groups will go to Lakewood houses in their assigned zone and distribute the performing arts schedule for the 2017-18 school year. On this flyer will also be information how to join Lakewood Music Boosters. The groups will be asking for cash donations to support Lakewood Music K-12 and thanking the community for its support in building the new performing arts wing at the high school. If no one is at home the flyer with the information will be rubber banded to the door knob. Tag Day starts at 1pm with adult volunteers meeting at Harding Middle School to pick up flyers, rubber bands and zone information. The performing arts students will meet their adult volunteer at the northwest corner of their assigned zone.We will put one or two adult volunteers with 6 students that will form two groups of three to visit both sides of the street as the adult volunteer supervises from the street. It should take about 2 hours to cover each of the 42 geographic zones. We need 50 adult volunteers for this to be a successful Tag Day. Please help support Lakewood Music!
A huge thank you for the tremendous community support of our event.
We had a very successful evening at Around the Corner with a great food, great singing and great fun; we hope those that were able to attend the Lakewood Sing & Serve enjoyed the evening! We have contacted our prize winners from the chance raffle, and the karaoke machine was well used with performances by both the teachers and the Lakewood students, parents, and friends. All of the money raised from the event will be going directly back to the students in helping fund classroom needs for the new arts wing.
From the families and friends that attended this event; we would love your feedback and suggestions on the evening. What can we improve in order to make the evening even more successful for everyone? We apologize that the space was smaller than we anticipated; but we appreciated the great turnout from the community. The booster’s would like to thank all of the families and friends that attended, as well as the companies that donated items for the chance raffle. We would especially like to thank the Lakewood music teachers who volunteered their time and energy in helping serve at the event: Mr. Waryk, Mr. Fitz, Mr. Blasko, Mrs. Richards, Mr. Hampton, and Mr. Steinbrunner, and special celebrity high school head principal, Mr. Ahearn!
The tip jar contest: Mozart vs. Beethovan had Mozart the winner!
Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones had Rolling Stones the winner!
Our chance raffle raised over $600, thank you to all that participated.
